Examinations

Scary?

Think of an exam as preparation for performance, in dance or in other parts of life!

Last term, here in Sleights, some people took Royal Academy of Dance Grade 5 exam, and others were part of a pilot scheme introducing the new Repertoire syllabus exams and Class Awards. Intermediate Foundation dancers taking these 2 levels went to Leeds. Thank you so much, those of you who were part of the pilot scheme for the Repertoire Syllabus.

St.Hilda’s Studios prepares people for examinations in classical ballet (through the dual graded and vocational graded structure organized by the Royal Academy of Dance)

A dance exam for a child becomes an experience for the whole family. Family assistance is encouraged, with exam coaching an inclusive activity. Greater understanding of why and how Classical ballet is simultaneously difficult and exciting comes through the greater depth explored when working towards an exam.
Whatever the age-group of the exam candidate, it becomes partly a technical dance discovery, partly a metacognitive (Webster: awareness of one’s own learning/thinking process) activity. So it feeds into every aspect of personal progress; what they call transferable learning.

St.Hilda’s Studios exams are generally held at Sleights Village Hall, It’s a light and airy space with a lovely wooden floor.

So, not scary; an interestingand useful process, valuable in terms both of education and training.
